Favorite Music Videos
These are music videos of some of my favorite songs that I found were well-edited and really creative in how they execute the context and meaning of the lyrics into the content portrayed in the video.
(Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools)
The examples we see in the music video such as glass bottles shattering, going to the club, or falling into a swimming pool are excellent ways to portray the meaning that Kendrick wants to present in the music video, which is to represent excessive alcohol consumption, and how it can be a way to escape from the cruel reality that people face, and it's one of my favorite features about this particular music video too, therefore I can really use Swimming Pools as an inspiration to add meaning into my upcoming music video.
(Justin Bieber - Beauty And A Beat)
Justin has created a really unique music video. The feature that caught my eye is that there are little to no noticeable cuts, and the switch between scenes is done flawlessly by the seamless transitions that are added between them. Justin holds a camera in the music video and continues to do so for the majority of the video, similar to that of when people do vlogs, which is interesting and unique compared to other music videos, resulting in it standing out amongst the others.
( Drake - Laugh Now Cry Later)
Drake creates a visually striking and visually engaging piece of work. The editing is particularly noteworthy for its use of quick cuts, slow motion, and color grading to create a dynamic and visually stimulating experience. Different shot types were used as well to create a sense of excitement, highlight the meaning of the lyrics, and keep the audience engaged. The numerous shot types used in the music video can be used as inspiration for me to add to my music video.
(Clean Bandit - Rather Be ft. Jess Glynne)
"Rather Be" is a visually captivating music video that complements the upbeat and infectious nature of the song. The video's aesthetic is characterized by a vibrant color palette, playful choreography, and a focus on human connection - a feature that I like about the music video.
(Charlie Puth - We Don't Talk Anymore ft. Selena Gomez)
Charlie has created one of the most unique and creative music video concepts in the past recent years. Showing a split-screen between a couple's daily lives in different cities really adds more meaning to the music video, as we can see in more detail how the couple goes through their day. Using a split screen has also proven to be time-efficient. For example, when someone sends a text, the audience can see the other person who is already shown on the other side of the split-screen react to the text, instead of waiting for the scene to appear later. The use of a split-screen in We Don't Talk Anymore is a unique trait that I find interesting, and I will definitely consider using it in my music video.
