Bricolage

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bricolage (a characteristic of postmodernism), meaning "to do odd jobs" in French, refers to creating something out of what is available. In media, specifically film, filmmakers combine various genres, such as comedy with horror, and mix different postmodern elements such as abandoning traditional narratives or intertextuality to create a film that causes the audience to rethink their understanding of cinema.

Examples of bricolage being used in films:

(Deadpool and Wolverine (2024): Deadpool and Wolverine both break the 4th wall, telling the theatre audience to shut down their phones and put them on silent mode, adding an element of bricolage in the film.)
